If you missed Mary’s first post from Grandma’s Perspective, read it here. Today she blogs about the different activities she is willing to do with her grandkids that she never would have done with her own children.
Two of my grandchildren were here this past weekend and one of the questions that always come up when they’re here is, “Grandma, can we go to Chuck E. Cheese’s?” And the answer is always the same, “Well of course we can!” What? Chuck E Cheese! I, and most adults I know, do not lay awake nights thinking about their next opportunity to go to Chuck E. Cheese! As a matter of fact, I normally avoid it like the plague!
So why do we tell our grandchildren “yes” as if this place was one of our favorite hang-outs? Because they want to! That’s good enough for me!
In defense of the above mentioned establishment, there is absolute nothing wrong with Chuck E Cheese. As a matter of fact, it’s a pretty fun restaurant where regardless of how young or old you are, your inner child can come out again. The games are fun and challenging for all ages and the food is pretty good as well. I encourage you to think about visiting this establishment for you next birthday party or just a fun afternoon out with the kids or grandkids.
But back to why we say yes…it was not hard to say “no” to my children but it’s not so easy with their children. Of course, I CAN say “no” and I do so when I really need to, I just choose to not need to very often.
