The Paleo Experiment

Today is January 15th.

15 days into 2013.

In my last post, I wrote that  my main personal goal this year was to get to my goal weight. 35 pounds to go.

Well, let’s make that 36.4.

There have been a lot of excuses as to why I haven’t exactly got to work on this goal yet. First, we were out of town for New Year’s. Then, I figured I’d wait until Big Sister started school again so I could have a clean slate with eating and exercising.

While I’m happy to report that I did exercise 5 days last week, my healthy eating habits are still on Christmas Vacation.

And that brings me to today.

I’ve done a lot of reading on the paleo diet, but at other points in my weight loss journey, it just didn’t seem like a good fit, or something I was interested in doing. When I first started losing weight, I worked on portion control. Then I added exercise in the mix. Then I tried to keep it real.  Also, I love coffee creamer & cheese, so asking me to give those things up was laughable.

But a couple of weeks ago, I started reading up on it again. The truth of the matter is, I don’t want to count calories every day for the rest of my life. I want it to be a natural habit to reach for healthy, unprocessed foods. And while I’m usually not a follower of fad diets (and I hate to call this a “fad,”) I do think that sometimes it’s worth trying something different to kick start your journey.

    You don’t have to give up dairy. It’s very controversial in the paleo world, but a lot of suggestions are for raw, full fat dairy. We still eat cheese, but significantly less than we would have before. Instead of coffee creamer, I know some people use coconut oil (I think you have to blend it into your coffee), but it makes it really smooth, like a latte (so I’ve heard).

    Good luck! The first few weeks are the hardest, but it honestly becomes so second nature that you don’t even think about it!
