I have mentioned my love for the Braves a few times on this blog. As much as I enjoy the Atlanta Braves, It is pretty darned expensive to visit the ball park. Therefore, it only happens a few times each season. We have been talking for a while about checking out a Gwinnett Braves game and last weekend, we made it happen. The G Braves are a Minor League team that play at Cool Ray Field in Lawrenceville, which is about an hour and 15 minutes from my house in Newnan. That is quite a hike but lucky for us, my in-laws live close by so we stayed the night at their house after the game. They came to the game as well. It is always nice to have more people that are willing to take a turn entertaining Eli.
Our tickets were $14 and were on the first base line. There is only one level at Cool Ray Field so there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. They sell tickets for the grassy hill in the outfield for $5-$6, and there are bounce houses set up out there for the kiddos. That will be a great, affordable place to sit when Eli gets a bit bigger.
Now for the bad part. We went on a Friday night- and the regular Braves were out of town- and it was the last Friday night before school started- and BJ Upton was playing- AND there were fireworks after the game (which meant the best parking lot was blocked off and filled with fire works). All of those circumstances lead to a really BUSY game. Parking took forever. Standing in line for food took forever. Oh, and they don’t let you bring in any outside food or drinks, so eat before you come, or be prepared to buy overpriced hotdogs at the park. Save your money for the giant waffle ice cream cones!
The game was fun, even though the G Braves lost 1-8. Next time I’ll do a bit more research about the team and players before we go. I like to be ‘in the know’ about who I am rooting for.
Overall we had a great time and will definitely go again. I would have liked it to be a bit less crowded, but other than that, I have no complaints.
If you have the opportunity to support the G Braves, you should take it. I think you will have a great time!by
