New Year’s Resolutions

Here we are, at the end of 2012 and ready to start 2013!  While I have never really made New Year’s resolutions, I have been thinking of a few things I would like to do in the coming year.  And honestly, I know that if I don’t have some accountability then I will soon forget about the things I would like to change.  So, I am putting my top 3 goals/resolutions here for everyone to see and inviting you to do the same if you’d like to have some accountability also!  I will share my progress with you in July and would love to hear some feedback about how you are coming along with your resolutions too.

My top 3 New Year’s resolutions are:

  1.  Refocus, Reenergize, Reshape!   I have let the holidays get the better of me and I can see and feel the results.  The New Year is a great time to refocus my attention on my health goals and to reenergize my workout routine!  One of my goals is getting my cholesterol down, so I will get back to clean eating.  For me, that means putting those veggies and fruits where I can see them.  Veggies in the fridge are front and center on a shelf at eye level so I can see them every time I open the door!  Fruit goes into a pretty bowl or basket on the counter, where I can see them every time I walk into the kitchen!  Which leads me to the reshaping part of my resolution…I love walking at the park (my hubby says I power walk) and it is a great cardio workout, but us ladies should not be afraid of using weights.  I also love going to the gym and lifting weights, it makes me feel strong and over the past year I have seen my body change shape from lifting weights.  But, I still have a bit of work in the reshaping area, so back to the gym I go!
  2. Unplug!  It may sound odd coming from someone who blogs, but I need to unplug from technology through the day to be there for my kids.  I have fallen into the habit of using FB as a break from the sometimes mundane tasks of motherhood, and have found myself being annoyed when my kids come to me for something while I am “busy” on FB.  I’m not shutting down my FB, but I am going to limit myself through the day and save it for the evening when the kids are in bed.  I think that sometimes we also use FB and other social media as a substitute for getting out and meeting people in real life.  So I will make it a point to attend more playdates and Mom’s Night Out events.    I have been fortunate to meet some great moms through meetup.com, the blog and local play groups, so it’s time to reconnect with them!
  3. Take more pictures with me in them!  For Christmas I put together a photo album for our parents and grandparents.  I realized that I have very few pictures from the past year with me and/or my husband in them.  Looking back at my own childhood pictures I find that the ones I treasure most are the ones with my parents and grandparents in them.  As moms we are almost always behind the camera capturing those special moments, but we need to get ourselves in the photo.  So turn that camera on yourselves and capture those moments that are fleeting cause we can’t get them back!
