I am a thrifty mamma. So when I heard about making my own baby wipes, I thought I would give it a try. I gathered some of my husbands old t-shirts and cut them up into ‘wipe’ sized rectangles. Then I read about what others were using as their wipe solution and decided to make mine as follows:
1tsp baby shampoo or soap
1tsp baby oil
3 drops of lavender oil for scent
My method was to mix the ingredients in a wipe container and then add the dry wipes, swishing them around so they all got saturated with the wipe solution.
Notice how I am using past tense.
I used my homemade wipes for about a month. They worked very well, especially because I use cloth diapers. I could just use them to wipe and throw them in the diaper pail to be washed with the diapers. Easy peasy.
They are difficult to take on the road.
They didn’t work well for wiping off grimy little hands, faces, tabletops, etc.
They got musty if I didn’t use the whole container in a timely manner. (I guess I should have made them in smaller batches.)
It was ONE MORE THING I had to keep up with every day.
It is just too darned easy to buy a big ole package of wipes and refill the container as needed.
So, that is what I do now. I am not ashamed. I am a thrifty mamma, but I decided this money saving endeavor was not worth my time.
Making my own baby wipes…..Love it or Leave it? I say LEAVE IT!
