I have always had birthday parties for my children at our home, but decided to try something different this year. My oldest was turning six and wanted to have an art party. Lucky for us, there are several options around town for such a celebration. We ended up having the party at In the Art of It and had the BEST experience, so I wanted to share it with all of you!
First of all, I want to mention how awesome the owner, Sara, was to work with. She answered all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable before the day of the party even arrived.
Now, for the details of the party…
When we first arrived, we were able to set up a table with our own food and drinks. They had another long rectangle table set up with paper and markers so the kids would have something to do before the painting began.
The canvases were set up on easels and had a sketch of the designs the birthday girl had picked out ahead of time (peace signs for girls and footballs for boys). They even prepared one for my three-year-old to paint by masking off the shape for her to paint around.
The instructor walked the kids through the painting by having them come up and get paint colors in stages. This really helped to keep the process organized. Some of the parents pitched in and assisted as needed, but I was amazed at what these little boys and girls could do on their own!
After they finished, the instructors helped them finish up their paintings by drying them and adding finishing touches (names, etc.) – they really turned out so cute!
We didn’t get a picture of everyone together, but here are some of the cute artists with their finished products (making silly faces). They made great party favors for the kids to take home.
After they finished their masterpieces, we had time for snacks, cake, and opening presents. Everyone had such a fun time! The studio got rave reviews from the guests, the parents, and (most importantly) the birthday girl. The studio even gave her a cute painting for her guests to sign.
While I cannot say enough wonderful things about their birthday party services, In the Art of It has much more to offer! They have open paint times that allow you to choose a piece of art and have the assistance of an instructor available as needed. We definitely plan to check this out soon! Check out more about open paint here.
If you want something a little more structured, there are several classes to check out. Click here for the current schedule.
Be sure to check out the studio’s Facebook page and Twitter for lots of information and pictures. There are always fun things going on at the studio, such as Mommy & Me, kids paint dates, date nights, summer camps, buy one get one free specials, silk scarf painting, wine glass painting, window painting and more. Check out their gallery for an idea of all the wonderful things you or your child can create.
