As a second time mom, there wasn’t much of anything we needed for the Squishie that we didn’t already have, but I was very excited when we got a set of Aden+Anais swaddle blankets to review and even more excited when I received another set from my sister for Christmas. We hadn’t heard of them when we had the Goober, but my sister bought some when she had her baby girl and loved them and her excitement and love of them was contagious. I’m putting this in writing: she was right; the Aden+Anais swaddle blankets are amazeballs!
The prints they come in are adorable and they are so incredibly soft and just get softer with every wash. I think my single most favorite thing about them is how versatile they are. When Squishie was a brand-new newbie, we used it mainly for its traditional purpose as a swaddle to get him to sleep longer than 45 minutes at a time. As he has gotten bigger, it has become a tummy time blanket, a changing table cover, a burpcloth, a boppy cover, and a carseat blanket. It’s made of a very breathable muslin so even as it gets warmer out, I’ve still felt comfortable wrapping the Squish up in it and not worrying he is going to sweat through his clothes.
Since we pretty much always have one nearby and I have been working at becoming more comfortable nursing in public, I have found myself using it as a nursing cover, either by just laying it over my shoulder or when I want something more secure, by tying two corners together and slipping it over my head. I’m pretty sure that the swaddles and our latest DIY wubbanub are the most useful baby gear items we have (excepting the carseat of course).
