Happy Valentine’s Day to all you mamas out there! Let’s put aside the heart shaped cookies, the goody bags and the entire pack of Valentines that your kid has to sign for his/her classmates and take a minute to talk about our original Valentine, our husbands! I don’t know about all of you but it’s become very apparent that how we celebrate Valentine’s Day has changed. Does anyone remember this song?? (Feel free to use your names!)
Rob and Wendy sittin’ in a tree
First comes love, next comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage
First comes love…..Let’s rewind to our pre-marriage days and remember what being young(er) and in love was like. I remember the giddy feeling when I saw him coming to the door with flowers, candy, a card and a cute teddy bear. Going to dinner and a movie, staying out until the last possible minute before saying our good-byes and then calling him on the phone (after he got home, cause we didn’t have cell phones) and talk about how much we missed each other and couldn’t wait to see one another the next day….ahhh, young love.
Next comes marriage…..Let’s talk about how Valentine’s Day as a married couple sometimes takes a bit more work to make it happen. After all, some of the mystery is gone but even amongst the day to day routine of work, housework, yard work, time with friends and family we still had time to enjoy being together and to plan a nice evening out for Valentine’s Day.
Our kids are a little older now so hubby and I were talking about what we might do this year for Valentine’s Day. His suggestion/question, “Wanna go to the gun range?” My response, “Only if you take me to dinner and a movie first!” I guess we’ve moved into the Do everything you can while you’ve escaped the house part of our marriage….sounds good to me!
