I don’t mind MOST of the tasks that are typical of a SAHM. I like to clean, even the shower and toilets don’t bother me. I don’t mind taking time to play with my son. Even though no actual conversation occurs between us, I enjoy spending time with him. I like to read books and sing songs and be silly to make him laugh. There are a few tasks, however that I
don’t like hate loathe. So far, I have not come up with a way to avoid these tasks….So I trudge through.
Washing, drying, and folding laundry does not bother me. But when it comes to PUTTING IT AWAY, I would rather pull weeds in the Atlanta heat. I can’t wait until Eli is old enough to put away his own clothes. I just wonder if the perfectionist in me will let him do it! I have to admit that sometimes our folded clothes stay in the basket for days. Along these same lines, I really hate unloading the dishwasher. I can’t rationalize this one either, because it only takes a few minutes….10 tops. But I still don’t like it.
My new least favorite chore is cleaning the ceramic tile floor in my kitchen. Since Eli is now eating more solid foods, (and we don’t have an indoor dog) 65-75% of what I put on his tray ends up on the floor, and if I don’t get it swept or mopped up right away it dries as solid as cement. I am still working on the best system for cleaning the floor. If I wait until Eli has gone to bed, it takes an act of God to get the dried pieces off. I don’t do it right away because I am moving on to the next thing that Eli needs, diaper change, playtime, etc.
I really dislike washing the slip cover for the couch. Ok, it isn’t the washing that I hate, it is the -putting-it-back-on-the-couch that I don’t like. It is a jigsaw puzzle that I am not very good at. Plus, the slipcover doesn’t fit great to begin with. Too bad the pattern underneath is circa 1993…I guess I’ll live with the slipcover!
Ironing is another one of my least favorites, just ask my husband. His work shirts usually sit around in a pile until HE needs them bad enough to iron them himself. The sad thing is that he is MUCH better at ironing than I am. Maybe I just need more practice….Nah, that can’t be it!
Until recently I really disliked planning the dinner menu. Pinterest, and my cool menu board have made it a little more bearable though. It is nice to be able to head to my FOOD! board on pinterest and pick a few previously pinned recipes. Then I get to write them on my cute (found on pinterest) menu board. The real trouble comes when I DONT plan the menu. Coming up with something on the fly every night is no fun at all!
So, there you have it. The Mommy chores I dread most. What is on your list?
