Date Night: Downtown Grill

Who knew that a strip mall in Tyrone could hold such a great place for date night?  When hubby got home from work the other night, I was craving some good Southern Comfort food.  He suggested we go to Downtown Grill in Tyrone, a place that he has been for lunch several times, but I had never been.  He looked at their website, and the blue plate special seemed to be calling my name.

I was surprised at how nice the restaurant was.  I guess I was expecting something more rustic considering the menu offers meatloaf, black eyed peas, and collard greens. I was so focused on the comfort food, I didn’t realize that they also have more sophisticated options such as filet mignon, brown sugar citrus salmon, and blackened seared ahi tuna.  The dining room was relatively busy for a Thursday night, but the service was friendly and our food came out in a timely manner.  I got the country fried steak with black eyed peas and mashed potatoes and hubby got the shrimp and grits.  My meal was just what I was craving, and I topped it off with a piece of apple pie a la mode.  My husband really enjoyed the shrimp and grits, which he had never tried before.  He had not one negative thing to say about it, which doesn’t happen often when it comes to food.  He would be a good food critic!

I added downtown grill as a friend on facebook…you should too.  They share their specials, and sometimes they have facebook ‘coupons’ that you can redeem. Example: one day last week, if you told your server the name of your first grade teacher, you got a free serving of blueberry cobbler!  What a deal!

So, looking for a change of pace for your next date night?  Try Downtown Grill in Tyrone.  And let me know what you think!
