As we build up to Father”s Day on Peach State Mom”s Blog this week, I want to share some ways you can honor your Dad, Husband, or other Father figures in yours or your children”s lives.
When I was growing up, “Breakfast in Bed” was what we did for Father”s Day. Breakfast was accompanied by homemade cards and a gift. As I got older, I took great pains to choose just the right “store-bought” card for Daddy. I continued the breakfast in bed and homemade card tradition with my own children (for a while!) Wish I”d had Pinterest to inspire me!
Father”s Day and my husband”s birthday are close together, and often on the same weekend. (This year, my husband”s birthday is the day after Father”s Day!) We have always tried to differentiate the celebrations with themes and separate gifts, so my husband gets to have TWO parties! My children enjoyed helping make plans.
Father”s Day art casino spiele work and hand drawn pictures were standard Father”s Day gifts from my children, as were photos of Dad with the children. (Don”t forget: Granddads love photos, too!) When my daughter was 19 months old, I bought t-shirts and fabric paint so she could put handprints on a shirt for her Daddy. We made 2 versions, one for Daddy”s birthday and one for Father”s Day. 23 years later, as you can see from photos above and below, he still has the shirts!
Consider changing your Facebook cover photo to feature your Dad or your husband (or both!) My friend, Amanda, whose dad is celebrating in heaven, joins her siblings in posting a photo of her Dad in his football glory days, so his grandchildren will remember him. Amanda also honors her Dad, on Father”s Day and his birthday, by donating to his favorite charity, Lions Club Lighthouse Foundation.
I have collected a number of ideas for you on my Father”s Day Pinterest Board. They include gifts, activities, and traditions to make your loved one”s day extra-special!
