A tale of Two Chairs

Most of the furniture in our house has been handed down to us from family.  I just don’t see the point in replacing a perfectly good guest bed, when we have one available to us that a family member didn’t need anymore.  The same is true for our couch…although constantly adjusting the slip cover is starting to get old.  Anyway….before baby, I knew I would be needing somewhere to sit comfortably for middle of the night (or middle of the day for that matter) feedings.  I pretty much knew I wanted a glider/rocker so was perusing the local Babies R Us and furniture stores to see what I could find.  Maggie and I hit up a consignment sale one day and found a great gently used glider rocker that I could not pass up.  We got help loading it into her van, and then the two of us preggos unloaded it into my house. (I thought for sure there would be some neighbors out and about to help us).  I am all set.

My "new to me" glider rocker, with a few other consigment sale finds.

My husband on the other hand, has been sitting in the same old -UGLY- recliner for the past 5 years.  Not to mention that the chair was handed down to us from my sister and brother in law and was originally purchased in 1997.  I finally decided that he was due a new chair before the baby arrived.  I couldn’t stomach the thought of daddy and new baby napping in the aqua/blue, threadbare, leans slightly to the left, too small, 14 year old recliner.

Definitely time for a new chair!

So, to fit our budget, I started perusing craigslist and found a great deal on a much bigger, more appropriately colored, cushy recliner. So, now Daddy is all set too.

Much better!

Any good Craigslist or consignment finds in your house?

Oh yeah! We found our couches via Craigslist…the lady had only used them for 2 weeks and we got them for $150 cheaper than she bought them for. =) And we bought my wedding ring at a pawn shop; when we took it to a jewelry store to make sure it was a real diamond, the lady’s eyes bugged out when we told her how much we’d paid for it. Oh, and the glider I got for when my baby came was originally $400 and we got it for $120 on Craigslist. I LOVE deals!
